About
Dr. Akemi Mii earned her PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She completed her predoctoral internship and postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Mii is a licensed clinical psychologist (PSY36452) who has experience working with children, adolescents, and young adults, including legally involved youth with significant behavioral concerns. She also has expertise in working with individuals experiencing a range of mental and behavioral health concerns, including depression, anxiety, and trauma.
Her work is grounded in the belief that emotional and behavioral challenges are best understood within the broader context of a person’s life experiences, relationships, and systems, and that meaningful change occurs through collaborative, strengths-based therapy.
She has extensive experience supporting individuals who experienced trauma and are navigating the emotional, behavioral, and relational challenges that can follow. Her therapeutic approach is warm, relational, and client-centered. She utilizes evidence-based practices including motivational interviewing (MI), cognitive behavioral therapy(CBT), trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT), and cognitive processing therapy (CPT). She works collaboratively with clients to identify patterns that no longer serve them, build effective coping and emotion regulation skills, and move toward values-aligned goals.
Dr. Mii strives to create a therapy space that feels safe, nonjudgmental, and empowering, where clients can explore difficult experiences while developing practical tools for everyday life. She values transparency, curiosity, and humor when appropriate, and views therapy as a partnership rooted in trust and respect.
